The George Mason baseball team earned a series win over Old Dominion last weekend becoming the first team all season to beat the Monarchs in a series. A pair of individuals shone on the field and they earned weekly honors with Dan Jaycox being named CAA Pitcher of the Week and Justin Bour being named CAA Rookie of the Week.
Jaycox allowed just one hit and two walks in six innings of work, striking out eight as Mason downed ODU 2-0 in a seven-inning contest. It was the first time all season that the Patriots shutout the opposition. Jaycox was making his eighth start of the year and he improved to 2-2 on the season. He is second on the team in earned-run average and he has struckout 44 batters while walking just 13 in 48.2 innings.
Bour hit .412 (7 for 17) on the week with two homers, six runs scored and eight RBI. He was 2 for 4 with a homer and four RBI in Mason's 18-16 win over Temple and he had five hits and four RBI in the three-game series against ODU. He is tops among all freshmen in the CAA in homers this season (14) and RBI (50) and he holds the Mason school record for homers by a freshman.
The Patriots have won 15 of their past 22 games and are currently fifth in the CAA. Due to final exams, Mason will be off until May 17 when the Patriots will play a three-game series at Wilmington to close out the regular season.
This is the first CAA Pitcher of the Week award for Jaycox while it is Bour's second CAA Rookie of the Week award. He also has been a CAA Player of the Week.
