The George Mason men's golf team finished 11th in their final tournament of the season, the 31st annual Rutherford Intercollegiate. Host Penn State, ranked 80th in the nation by Golfweek won the event - the 14th time the Nittany Lions have won the tournament in the last 16 years.
Sixty-six players battled windy conditions and a tough course setup in the final round at the recently-renovated par-72, 7,228-yard Penn State Blue Course. The field average, which was 77.44 in both of the first two rounds, rose to 82.55 in the final round. Wright State's Brandon Knutson, the runner-up in the individual standings, was the only player to shoot under-par in the final round. Knutson, who tied for 11th place at last year's Rutherford Intercollegiate, carded a 71 in the final round.
Senior Nick DeSimone led the Patriots after carding rounds of 77, 74 and 83 and finished 23rd overall. Clark Bixler also shot a final round 83 to finish tied for 33rd overall.
J.J. Amoruso and senior Dan Hurley finished tied for 49th after shooting identical 86s today. Senior Trey Bressler finished 65th with rounds of 85, 84 and 89 (258).
