The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced the scholar athletes for the 2007 season and six Patriots rowers achieved the criteria of excelling in the classroom in addition to on the water. All student-athletes who achieved a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher for her career and rowed for a minimum of 75% of the spring races or racing in a regional conference event were named CRCA National Scholar-Athlete.
Senior Lee Ann Fisher, a nursing major, was the coxswain of the lightweight four that placed third at the Dad Vail Regatta this spring. A native of Manassas, Fisher rowed four successful seasons for the Patriots.
Casey Clausen and Amelia Nelson, both juniors this season, earned the academic honor. They both rowed in the Varsity 8 boats this year. Clausen is an accounting and MIS major from Springfield, Va. and she has been a member of the Varsity 8 since her freshman year. Nelson is a nursing major from Milton, Mass.
Three sophomores earned the academic honor as well, Kathleen Dolan, Jennifer Mockler and Jordan Wheatley. Dolan also rowed in the Varsity 8 boat. She is a music education major from Shirley, N.Y. Mockler and Wheatley both rowed in the Second Varsity 8 boat this year. Mockler, a native of Huntington Station, N.Y., is majoring in anthropology. Wheatley, from Bridgewater, Va, is a government and international politics major at Mason.
Mason's women's rowing team had a successful season winning their first-ever CAA Championship and medaling at the Dad Vail Regatta.
