Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's softball team (17-33, 3-15 CAA) will play in its final regular season Colonial Athletilc Association match-up this weekend against Drexel (17-18, 6-11) at George Mason Field. The two teams will compete in a doubleheader on May 5 (12 p.m.) and will then wrap-up the three-game series with a single game the proceeding day at 12 p.m.
Mason is coming off its most successful weekend of conference competition as the Patriots won two out of three games at Delaware, which included a 6-3 and a 9-0 victory over the Blue Hens. Sophomore Kelsey Mack garnered a .529 batting average on the week to lead the Patriots and also connected on a team-high nine hits, including one double, and went ahead and scored a team-best four runs. In addition, Mack collected two RBI, had 10 total bases from 17 at-bats.
Freshman Becky Anderson had a 4-for-13 showing at the plate, scored two runs and collected a team-best four RBI against UD. Anderson collected a 1-2 record in the circle, with her win coming in the 9-0 shutout where she allowed only three hits from UD, did not allow any walks and struckout two of the 17 batters she faced. Anderson also collected her first save of the season as she relieved junior Arielle Weinkofsky in Mason's 6-3 win over the Blue Hens. For her efforts on the week, Anderson garnered CAA Rookie of the Week honors for the first time this season.
Drexel has lost five of its last six contests, with its lone win coming against Lafayette in Philadelphia by a score of 3-0 on May 2. The last time the Dragons claimed a CAA victory was on April 14 when Drexel swept Georgia State in a doubleheader at Drexel Field, winning the first game by a score of 6-5 and the second, 3-2.
Last season, Drexel won all three games in Philadelphia by scores of 8-0, 3-2 and 3-2 on April 1-2.
The Patriots and Dragons will meet again on May 6 at 12 p.m.
