Potomac, Va. -
The George Mason baseball team played an exhibition contest against the Potomac Nationals on Wednesday evening and the Patriots dropped an 8-4 seven-inning decision to the Single A affiliate of the Washington Nationals. The Patriots used eight pitchers in the contest as none went more than one inning.
Mason started the scoring in the first as Spencer Wiggins led off the first and Scott Krieger later homered for a 2-0 lead. The score stayed that way until the third when, with two outs and no one on, the Nationals had a walk and three straight singles to make it 2-2. A two-run error gave Potomac the lead for good. The Nationals later went up 5-3 before Mason closed to 5-4 on a Mark Hill RBI single.
Later in the game, trailing 8-3, Mike Laird hit an RBI single that made it 8-4. Despite the lead, the Nationals batted in the bottom of the seventh.
Mason will take the field next on Friday when the Patriots host Delaware in a three-game set. Friday's game is at 3 p.m., Saturday's is at 2 p.m. and Sunday's is at 1 p.m. J.J. Pannell will pitch on Friday, Mike Modica on Saturday and Dan Jaycox on Sunday.
