Philadelphia, Pa. - The Mason women's crew placed first at the Kerr Cup Regatta this past weekend, winning the Colonial Athletic Association Championship for the first time in its history. Mason earned 54 points outdistancing Delaware (46), who has won it four of the last five years, and Drexel (36).

Mason finished third in the Novice 8 boat and was awarded eight points, first in the Varsity 4 earning six points, first in the Second Varsity 8 for 18 points and a second place finished in Varsity 8 scored the Patriots 20 points.

"This was a complete team effort. We learned a lot from the previous week's racing, made some adjustments and went out and executed our race plan," said Head Coach Geoff Dillard. "I am very proud of the way they rowed this past weekend. We are also excited for the future as we have four freshmen in our varsity 8 and five freshmen in our second varsity 8. We will look to build off of this success."

The Drexel men finished second in the CAA team competition with 31 points behind Delaware who won all four of its races to score 60 team points. The Blue Hens were awarded the Dr. Thomas Kerr Cup and the CAA varsity eight title while George Mason finished second.

Delaware won the overall team point total competition which is determined by combining the men's and women's point totals. Delaware's total of 106 topped George Mason who tallied 76 points for second and Drexel rounded out the top three with a men's and women's combined total of 67 points, well ahead of the fourth through seventh place crews. William & Mary finished with a total of 39 points for fourth, Virginia Commonwealth was fifth (18), Old Dominion earned sixth (9), while UNC Wilmington finished seventh with four points total.
