Ahoure Sets Two Meet Records on the First Day of the CAA Championships

HARRISONBURG, Va. - George Mason sophomore Murielle Ahoure (Bristow, Va./Hayfield) set two meet sprint records in Friday's qualifying heats on the first day of action at the Colonial Athletic Association Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the James Madison University Track and Field Complex in Harrisonburg, Va. on Friday.

She won her preliminary 100-meter race in 11.59 seconds, breaking the former mark of 11.65 seconds set by Mason's Cydonie Mothersill in 1999. In the prelims of the 200-meter dash, Ahoure finished first in her heat in 23.53 seconds. That beat the former record of 23.80 seconds established by Mason's Danita Roseboro in 1993.

In the team scoring, William and Mary leads both the men's and women's competition after the first day of competition at the meet.

After 13 events were completed, the William and Mary men's team held first place with 83 points and North Carolina Wilmington was second with 50.5 points. In third place was Northeastern with 29.

On the women's side, William and Mary led with 77 points, Northeastern was second with 71 points and North Carolina Wilmington held third place with 42 points.

Northeastern senior Zara Northover was a double winner, as she took first in the women's hammer with a distance of 47.99 meters (157'5") and first in the discus with a throw of 44.34 meters (145'6").
