NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (April 19, 2007) - The Delaware Blue Hens downed #10 George Mason, 4-0 in the first round of the CAA Women's Tennis Championship this afternoon at Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News, Va.
The Blue Hens claimed the doubles point with an 8-4 victory by Elena Berry and Amanda Campbell over Mason's Maricel Ballester and Alexandria La Coste at number one and an 8-1 triumph by the Hens' Liz Perlow and Julie Schiller over the Patriots Meredith Cutchin and Jennifer Kramer at number three. In singles play, UD's Campbell beat La Coste, 6-2, 6-0 at number two, Brittany Barsky topped Alicia Van Zandt 6-2, 6-1 at number five and Laura Honig defeated Ellen Mathis 6-1, 6-2 at number six.
The Patriots end the season with a 5-15 mark, 0-5 in the CAA. The Green and Gold lose top singles player Maricel Ballester and Melissa Wooten to graduation.
