Koucheravy CAA Swimmer of the Year for Third Time

Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University senior Tom Koucheravy (Fairfax, Va.) garnered Colonial Athletic Association Male Swimmer of the Year honors for the third-straight year, as announced by the conference office Wednesday afternoon. He is the just the second three-time CAA Swimmer of the Year, joining James Madison's Randy Parker who earned the honor from 1986-88.

Koucheravy took first place in the 200, 500 and 1650-freestyle and was a member of George Mason's winning 800 freestyle relay team at the CAA Championship to lead the Patriots to a second-place team finish. The senior broke his own meet record in the 1650 free with a time of 15:04.87 to capture the event for the fourth year in a row. He also shattered his own CAA meet record in the 500 free with a time of 4:21.42 and was first in the 200 free with a time of 1:38.56. Koucheravy went on to earn honorable mention All-America honors after placing 15th overall in the 1650 free at the NCAA Championships.

Koucheravy was also named the men's outstanding swimmer for the third consecutive year after his performance at the 2007 CAA Swimming & Diving Championships.

Joining Koucheravy as 2007 award winners in men's swimming and diving are: Drexel senior Brett Molash (CAA Men's Diver of the Year), UNC Wilmington's Rob Anderson (Rookie of the Year in swimming) and Towson's Bradley Bolin (Rookie of the Year in diving). Additionally, James Madison's Chris Feaster was voted as Men's Swimming Coach of the Year, while Drexel's Larry May was selected as the men's diving Coach of the Year.

Mason's regular season ended at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships (Feb. 14-17) and the Patriots' men's team finished second for the fourth year in a row with a point total of 518.
