WILMINGTON, N.C. - George Mason's softball squad was defeated by a score of 7-0 in a Colonial Athletic Association match-up against UNC Wilmington Sunday afternoon at Boseman Field. The Patriots now own an overall record of 12-28 (0-12 CAA), while the Seahawks improve to 18-25 on the year (8-4 CAA).
The Seahawks took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when leftfielder Paige Wakefield recorded an RBI single, scoring rightfielder Meghan Murray, who led the game off with a walk.
UNCW then broke the game open when it scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth. In the sixth inning, the Seahawks added two more runs as sophomore catcher Carley Hughes smashed another solo shot for her 15th round tripper of the year, and third baseman Krista Searle, who reached base on a single, also scored.
Freshman hurler Becky Anderson was in the circle for 4.1 innings and gave up four runs, three earned, off of six hits to earn the loss. UNCW senior Jes Luckett improves her record this season to 10-5, throwing seven innings while allowing just two hits and striking out four batters.
The Patriots return to action at 3 p.m. Wednesday in a doubleheader against Georgetown, in Washington, D.C.
