PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Mason golf team turned in its best finish of the spring season finishing ninth in the Princeton Invitational. The tournament was due to be 54 holes with a final round played today, but expected inclement weather caused the tournament to be shortened to two rounds.
Mason's J.J. Amoruso finished tied for ninth overall after shooting a first-round even par 71 followed by a 76 at the par 71 6,390 Princeton Golf Course. Dan Hurley turned in two 74 stroke rounds to finish tied for 17th.
The Patriots other scoring results include Nick DeSimone +9(79-72=158); David Murname +16 (79-79=158); and Clark Bixler +17 (82-77=159).
Princeton's John Sawin won the 36-hole Princeton Invitational by two shots over Keegan Bradley of St. John's as the Red Storm edged out Princeton by four shots for the team title Saturday.
St. John's Bradley carded the low round of 67 through the first 18 holes, but shot a 73 in the second round to finish at -2, allowing Sawin to come from behind. Two other golfers broke 70 as Columbia's August Quartararo and Towson's Jeff Castle both turned in first-round 69s. Sawin and Bradley were the only players to finish under par for the two rounds.
St. John's won the team title at +15. Princeton (+19), Columbia (+20), Saint Joseph's (+26), Towson (+28), Penn (+28), George Washington (+28), Georgetown (+30), George Mason (+34), St. Bonaventure (+35), Temple (+39), Navy (+41), Rutgers (+47), Villanova (+51) and Rider (+64) completed the field.
