Wilmington, N.C.--George Mason University's softball team (12-27, 0-11 CAA) fell to UNC Wilmington (17-25, 7-4) in a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader at Boseman Field Saturday afternoon. The Patriots lost the first game by a score of 10-1 and then dropped an 11-1 decision to the Seahawks in the nightcap.
Mason scored its lone run of the first game in the top of the fifth after freshman Becky Anderson connected on a single, which scored sophomore Dee Murray from second. In this contest, sophomore Ali Bryan, sophomore Kelsey Mack and junior Emily Miller each added a hit for the Patriots. Anderson's record in the circle fell to 4-11 on the year as she gave up 10 runs, nine earned, off of 11 hits, while striking out three of the 24 batters she faced in four innings of work. Jess Luckett earned the win for the Seahawks as she allowed only one run off of four hits and strukout two and walked four Patriots in five innings.
In the second contest, UNCW exploded in the second inning as it scored seven runs and tacked on two more in the third to push its lead to 11. The Patriots scored in the fourth as Mack hit a single and earned an RBI as Murray crossed home plate. Bryan also collected a hit for Mason in this match-up. Junior Arielle Weinkofsky's record in the circle now stands at 3-11 as she gave up 11 runs off of eight hits and was relieved by sophomore Rachel Hastings in the fourth and she allowed one hit.
Mason and UNCW will wrap-up the three-game series on April 15 at Boseman Field, with first pitch to be thrown at 12 p.m.
