FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -
The Division I Men's and Women's Track and Field Committee released the list of men and women who have been selected to compete in the 2007 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships. George Mason's Murielle Ahoure and Ryan McCoy have both been selected to compete at the championships, slated to begin on March 9 at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark.
After finishing last season as one of only three freshman competing at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 100-meter dash and the lone freshman in the 200-meter dash, Ahoure will be competing at her first NCAA Indoor Championships meet in her sophomore season. The Bristow, Va. native will run in two events at the championships - the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. She currently ranks 18th in the nation in both events. She ran her fastest time of the season in the 60-meter dash (7.33 seconds) at last weekend's ECAC Indoor Championships. Her fastest time in the 200-meter dash (23.60 seconds) this season came at the St. Valentine's Invitational on Feb. 10.
Senior Ryan McCoy will compete in the triple jump at the championships. He has competed at the Indoor Championship meet once before, placing eighth in the triple jump in 2005 to earn All-America status. His top mark this season is 15.84 meters (51 ft. 11.75 in.), which he achieved on Feb. 17 at the Virginia Tech Challenge. That distance currently ranks McCoy 13th in the nation heading into the championships.
The preliminary round of the women's 60-meter dash is scheduled to be held on Friday, March 9 at 6:15 p.m., while the women's 200-meter dash preliminary heats and finals will be held on the same day, March 9. The preliminary heats are slated to begin at 7:20 p.m. with the finals scheduled for 8:55 p.m. The men's triple jump is scheduled to be held the next day, Saturday, March 10, at 6:15 p.m.
