The Colonial Athletic Association announced its weekly awards for women's lacrosse on Tuesday and freshman midfielder Kelly Davis (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) was named the CAA Rookie of the Week for her outstanding play in George Mason's two nonconference contests this past week.
Davis had a huge week, scoring seven goals as the Patriots split a pair of games against American and Virginia Tech. In Mason's 15-9 win in the home opener against American on March 1, she led all players with five goals, and in the 8-7 loss at Virginia Tech on March 4, she had two goals and an assist for three points. On the season, Davis leads the team in points (9), goals (8) and free-position goals (2).
The conference also announced its Players of the Week on Tuesday. The award was split by Old Dominion senior midfielder Caroline Jacobs and Drexel senior midfielder Emily Hoesch. Jacobs scored five goals and led the Lady Monarchs in caused turnovers, draw controls and ground balls in her season debut against American, while Hoesch scored 11 goals and handed out five assists as she led the Dragons' to a perfect 3-0 record during the week.
Davis and the rest of the Patriots return home to face the 10th-ranked team in the nation in the latest IWLCA poll, the Georgetown Hoyas, on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at George Mason Stadium.
