Fairfax, Va.--In its second game of the day at the Patriot Classic, George Mason University's softball team extended its win streak to three after defeating Central Connecticut State (0-1) by a score of 8-0. The Patriots outhit the Blue Devils, 14-2, in six innings of play.
Bach mimicked her efforts from the first game on Saturday as she led the game off with a double and ended up scoring after junior Kristin Dickel (North Wales, Pa.) was tagged out at first. Junior catcher Lesley Hassen (Virginia Beach, Va.) reached base in each of her four at-bats, which included a 2-for-3 showing at the plate, all of which were singles. On Hassen's other two tries, she walked and then made it to first on a fielder's choice. Hassen also scored two of Mason's eight runs.
Dickel collected 10 putouts at first base and also went 3-of-4 against CCSU, all of which were singles. Dickel earned an RBI in the first and scored a run in the final inning.
With the Patriots ahead, 5-0, Paige Miller (So.; McLean, Va.) came to bat with the two outs and the bases loaded. Miller smacked one to leftfield to earn three RBI and put Mason in the lead by eight runs. Miller also had a single in the second and scored after sophomore Ali Bryan reached on an error.
Freshman Becky Anderson (Oakton, Va.) pitched the entire game for the Patriots and only allowed two hits, while walking one and striking three of the 20 batters she faced. Sophomore Rachel Brenneman started things off for CCSU in the circle and gave up five runs, two earned, off of nine hits in 3.1 innings of work. Freshman Jaclyn Logan was the reliever and gave up three runs off of five hits, while striking two and walking one Patriot.
Eight of Mason's nine batters tallied at least one hit and the Patriots scored at least one run in five of the six innings.
This is the first time Mason has defeated its opponent by eight runs since the Patriots claimed a 9-1 win at George Washington on May 5, 2005.
The Patriots will return to action when they face Cornell on March 4 at 1 p.m.
