Fairfax, Va. - The Lady Netters were victorious today at the Robinson Field Tennis Courts as they defeated Coppin State, 5-2. The win snaps a nine match losing streak for the Lady Netters, bringing their overall record to 3-9. With seven matches before the CAA tournament, the win is a big stepping-stone in the right direction for the Lady Netters.
The doubles teams of Alicia Van Zandt and Julie Moscato, along with, Meredith Cutchin and Jen Kramer each pulled out victories. In singles play, four women brought home victories for Mason. Maricel Ballester got off on the right foot winning at the No. 1 position, 6-2, 6-3. Following her lead were Moscato, Cutchin and Ellen Mathis who each won in two sets. Cutchin's victory was probably the most dominant as she won by a score of 6-0, 6-1. Head Coach Steve Curtis had this to say after the match. "I was very proud of my team, they showed fight and a will to win today. We needed this victory to jump start the season."
The Lady Netters will look to jumpstart from this win in their two matches this weekend. Both matches will be at the Robinson Field Tennis Courts, as Mount St. Mary's comes to Fairfax on Saturday, followed by UMBC on Sunday.
