WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - George Mason's men's track and field team opened up its 2007 outdoor season at the Wake Forest Open at Kentner Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C. this weekend. Junior Brian Hay highlighted the weekend for the Patriots, reaching the finals of the 110-meter hurdles and qualifying for the IC4A Outdoor Championships in the event.

Hay placed seventh in the finals of the 110-meter hurdles with an IC4A-qualifying time of 14.57 seconds. In the preliminary heats, Hay ran a time of 14.72 seconds to qualify for the finals.

In the 3000-meter run, Charles Millioen, competing for the first time since the fall cross country season, finished fourth out of the 55 runners in the field, crossing the finish line in 8:25.13. Millioen, a transfer student from Georgetown who is pursuing his master's degree at George Mason, didn't compete for the Patriots during the indoor season because he exhausted his eligibility for the indoor campaign while at Georgetown.

Another transfer student, junior Michael Wade, who competed in the jumping events for two years at Robert Morris University before coming to George Mason, placed among the top athletes in the high jump. Competing in Section B at the meet, Wade finished second in the event with a jump of 1.95 meters (6 ft. 4.75 in.). Wade also competed in the long jump, placing 12th with a leap of 6.91 meters (22 ft. 8 in.).

The men's track and field team will compete again when it hosts the Mason Spring Classic at George Mason Stadium on Saturday, March 31.
