Women's Lacrosse Blows Out St. Joseph's, 15-7

PHILADELPHIA - The George Mason women's lacrosse team improved its overall record to 4-3 this season with a dominating 15-7 victory against St. Joseph's on Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field in Philadelphia, Pa.

St. Joseph's and Mason began the game by alternating the first five goals. SJU opened up the scoring four minutes into play with an unassisted goal by Lindsey-Kate McCool. George Mason answered back two minutes later with a free-position goal by freshman Megan Udovich to even the score. A minute later, the Hawks regained the lead when Jessica Westlake scored off a pass from Jenna Martino. The back-and-forth action continued as the Patriots tied the score at two three minutes later with a goal by junior Laura King assisted by junior Julie Park. Martino put SJU back on top with a free-position goal less than a minute later. It was the last time the Hawks held the lead in the game as the Patriots went on to tie the score at the 12:44 mark with a goal by sophomore Brittany Berger. George Mason tallied three more goals before the Hawks answered back on Abby Renninger's goal with 6:51 left in the first period. After Renninger's goal, the Patriots found the back of the net three more times in the period to enter the break with a 9-4 lead.

George Mason came out firing in the second period, adding two more goals in the first six minutes of play. Kristina Jaggers scored a goal for SJU off a short pass from Martino to make the score 11-5, but the Patriots responded with three more goals to push their lead to nine goals. Mason went on to score one more goal in the period, while St. Joseph's tallied two for the final deficit.

King had three goals and two assists for a total of five points on the day. Park added four points with two goals and two assists, while senior Melissa Venturi had three points, scoring three goals in the game. Senior midfielder Melissa Curry led the Patriots with three caused turnovers and five ground balls in the game.

Martino notched three points for the Hawks with one goal and two assists. Westlake added two goals and McCool earned two points with one goal and one assist.

George Mason plays again on Wednesday, March 28 at 4 p.m. at George Washington.
