FAIRFAX, Va. - After the first day of wrestling at the CAA Championships at John Linn Memorial Gym, Tyler Tisdell stands as the lone wrestler for Mason still competing in the championship bracket of his weight class. Tisdell, wrestling at 165 pounds, defeated C.J. Inglin of Boston University by a score of 5-1 in his only match of the day. The Sewell, N.J. native will wrestle again on Saturday at 12 p.m. when he faces off against Old Dominion University's Nick Pullano in the semifinals for a spot in the finals at 5 p.m.

Mason still has seven wrestlers competing in their respective consolation brackets. Joe Coughlin advanced to the second round of the 125-pound consolation bracket after defeating Joe Cipriano of Wagner by a technical fall, 17-0. Will Powars advanced to the second round of the 133-pound consolation bracket by defeating David Wise of Campbell by a score of 6-4 in overtime. Advancing by way of a medical forfeit to the second round in the 141-pound consolation bracket was Mostafa Ibrahim. He will take on Cory Dunn of Sacred Heart on Saturday. Randy Oates advanced in the 174-pound consolation bracket with a bye. In the 184-pound consolation bracket, Matt Moyer defeated Brian Stouffer of Drexel, 10-4, to advance to the second round of action. Harry Zander advanced to the next round of the 197-pound consolation bracket with a pin 57 seconds into his match against Rob Yoder of Campbell. In the heavyweight consolation bracket, Ryan Kittrick defeated Binghamton's Mike Patterson 4-1 to advance to the second day of competition.

Robert Henry of Mason lost in the 157-pound consolation bracket to JMU's Scott Yorko, 8-7. Controversy surrounded the ending of the match as it appeared Henry had scored a takedown as the clock expired to win the match 9-8. However, after some deliberation amongst the referee and the scorer's table, it was decided that Henry's takedown came after the buzzer sounded to end the match.

In the team scoring, No. 9 Hofstra is in the lead with 46 team points. The Pride still have all 10 of their wrestlers alive in the championship brackets. Old Dominion is second with 28.5 team points, while Rider is third with 26.5 team points. George Mason currently sits in a tie for fifth place with Sacred Heart in the team standings with 15.5 points.

The second and final day of action begins tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the second round consolation matches. The two-day event wraps up with the consolation finals and championship bouts scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Tickets for tomorrow's action are $10 for adults and $5 for youth, senior citizens and CAA students with a valid student ID.
