Mason Softball Falls to Albany and UCF

Tampa, Fla.--In the second day of the Speedline Invitational in Tampa, Fla., Mason's softball team was first edged by Florida International, 5-3, and then dropped an 8-1 decision to the University of Tennessee Chattanooga.

Heading into the bottom of the first against the Panthers, the Patriots were down by a score of 2-0, but responded with three runs of their own. Sophomore Ali Bryan led off with a bunt single and sophomore Kelsey Mack, who was third in the line-up, walked. Freshman Becky Anderson was up next for Mason and smacked a three-run homerun over the fence for her third of the season. FIU took the lead in the fifth inning and helped secure its win with another run scored in the top of the seventh.

Paige Krystofinski pitched the first two innings for the Patriots against FIU and gave up two earned runs off of five hits, while walking one of the nine batters she faced. Anderson earned the loss as she gave up three unearned runs off of nine hits.

Against UTC, Mason went into the bottom of the fourtth down by six runs and scored its only run after Vickie Brill singled to the right side to earn an RBI as Anderson came home.

Sophomore Rachel Hastings earned the loss for Mason as she pitched the first four and two thirds for Mason.

The Patriots will return to action tomorrow at a time yet to be determined.
