On Monday, June 4, 2007, the Patriot Club hosted the 20th Annual Alumni-Athlete Golf Outing sponsored by the Anderson Company at Evergreen Country Club in Haymarket, Virginia. This year's event raised approximately $8,000 for the George Mason University Student-Athlete Scholarship Fund, and attracted almost 30 foursomes consisting of Mason alumni, administrators, staff and supporters. The morning shotgun was followed by a social hour out on the Evergreen patio leading into a barbeque buffet and awards ceremony combined with a silent auction. Additionally, there were a number of raffle prizes donated by various local businesses and patrons given away to lucky ticket holders.

First place winners Joe Wirth, Scott Graf, Dave Shayka and Vince Kush

In the tradition of the Alumni-Athlete Golf Outing, support from the entire University and Mason athletic department was evident. A number of the senior members of the Mason University administration including Lloyd Griffiths, Dean of the Volgenau School of IT&E, Bill Reeder, Dean of the College of Visual & Performing Arts, Tom Calhoun, Vice President for Facilities, Tom Hennessey, University Chief of Staff, and Dr. Morrie Scherrens, Senior Vice President joined the field. Moreover, many other university alumni-athletes, coaches, administrators and staff representing the sports of baseball, men's basketball, lacrosse, softball, men's and women's tennis, and wrestling took part in the event. Wrestling received a special thanks and a percentage of the tournament proceeds for their next year's operating budget as they were the Mason team with the most alumni participation and team representation at this year's golf outing. Additional thanks were extended to Brion's Grille as the outing lunch sponsor and My Plumber, the outing cart sponsor.

Prizes and awards were given to the top three foursomes, the last place team and each contest hole winner. The first place foursome was fielded by Scott Graf, Vince Kush, Dave Shayka and Joe Wirth. Second place went to Kent and Meg Ashley, Kenny Taylor, and Terry Walline, followed by the team of Kip Addison, Mike Holupka, Paul Micklich, and Joe Shaull who claimed third. Bringing up the rear of the tournament field was the foursome comprised of Erica Ayers, Thomas Crostic, Lee Ann Houston and Doug Zebrak.

While no golfer was able to sink a hole-in-one to win a 2007 Pontiac G6 Convertible, donated by Koons of Manassas, there was aggressive competition for the remaining contest holes. The winner of the Closest to the Pin contest, sponsored by Educational Support Services, was Terry Walline. The Straightest Drive competition, sponsored by Centre Management, was claimed by Mike Bazan. Lastly, on the women's side, the winner of the Longest Drive, sponsored by Franey Muha Alliant Insurance Services, was Meg Dentler, and on the men's side, Kevin Rice.
