The George Mason tennis team won their second match of the season against Loyola on March 1 in Baltimore, Md, by a close 4-3 margin. The Patriots victory is the first in the spring season after winning their only dual match in the fall season.
All three doubles teams won their matches for the point. The closest match was the top match between the Patriots team of Jay Friedman and Jordan Lipstock as they narrowly defeated the Greyhounds team of Gannon/Edgar, 8-6.
In singles action all the matches were very competitive as four of the six singles matches were decided in three sets. Mason's top player and newcomer Stas Budagov won his match in three sets, 6-3, 4-6 and 7-5. Jordan Lipstock was victorious at the #4 match, defeating his opponent, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4. Matt Vaughn also won in three sets from the #5 position, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4. Martin Brown won the #6 match in two sets, but had to go to the tiebreaker in the second set for the win, 6-3, 7-6(5).
