FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason (2-2) dominated the first period of action on its way to an 18-10 rout of St. Bonaventure (1-2) on Tuesday afternoon at George Mason Stadium. The 18 goals is the most scored by the Patriots in a game during the 2007 season.

Mason scored the first four goals of the game, with senior Melissa Venturi finding the back of the net twice, before St. Bonaventure's Katelyn Faas answered with a goal of her own at the 24:21 mark. After Faas' goal, George Mason scored the next six goals to open up a 10-1 lead on the Bonnies with 8:22 remaining in the period. After being held scoreless until 3:27 remained in the period, the Patriots tacked on four more goals and entered the half with a commanding 14-3 lead.

Despite being outscored 7-4 by St. Bonaventure in the second period, Mason dominated in nearly every statistical category. The Patriots took more shots (35-16) and had more ground balls (26-17), draw controls (17-12), and caused turnovers (13-6) in the contest.

The Patriots' 18 goals were spread amongst six players. Junior Laura King matched a career high with six, Venturi and freshman Megan Udovich both had four, freshman Kelly Davis tallied two and senior Jess Shelton and junior Julie Park both chipped in one. On the defensive side of the field, junior Megan Bartlett and senior Katie Linnertz put consistent pressure on the Bonnies, with Bartlett causing four turnovers and Linnertz finishing with three. Sophomore Maggie Bridges led Mason with a game-high five ground balls.

St. Bonaventure's attack was led by junior Kimberly Ross, who finished with three goals. Senior Robin Mason led the Bonnies with four ground balls in the game.

Mason plays again on Saturday, March 17 against Boston University at George Mason Stadium. The game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
