BUIES CREEK, N.C. - George Mason (9-7, 5-3 CAA) traveled to North Carolina on Saturday for a pair of dual meets, falling to UNC Greensboro (7-3) 21-16 to begin the afternoon before bouncing back with a 30-12 CAA victory against Campbell (2-14-1, 1-5 CAA) later in the evening.

In the final meet of the day, Campbell jumped out to an early 12-0 lead, but George Mason stormed back and won the last seven matches of the evening to give the Patriots a 30-12 victory at Carter Gym in Buies Creek, N.C.

Campbell was staked to a 12-0 lead courtesy of a George Mason forfeit at 125 pounds and victories from David Wise at 133 pounds and Trevour Smith at 141 pounds.

Wise ran his CAA record to a perfect 5-0 by some late match heroics. With the score tied 3-3 and less than 15 seconds remaining, Wise earned his last point via an escape to give him the one-point decision.

The next late match victory took place in the 149 pound match between Campbell's Chris Mazzatta and sophomore Chris Cartella. With the score tied and time winding down in the third period, Cartella escaped from Mazzatta's control giving Cartella the deciding point in his 6-5 win.

The last match of the evening also provided some excitement at the end, as senior Ryan Kittrick used a takedown with seven seconds remaining and the match tied to give him a 3-1 decision against Campbell's Jeremiah Fennell.

Earlier in the day, UNCG took an early 3-0 lead after Joe Sheffield recorded a 3-2 decision against senior Ryan Kittrick at 285 pounds. The Spartans extended their lead to 9-0 after being awarded a forfeit at 125 lbs. After the Patriots' Will Powars collected a 7-3 decision at 133 pounds, UNCG's Chris Bencivenga responded with a fall victory against freshman Mostafa Ibrahim in 3:47 at 141 pounds to give the Spartans a 15-3 advantage.

The Patriots took a 3-0 decision victory at 149 pounds and an 11-1 major decision at 157 pounds to cut the gap to 15-10 in favor of the Spartans. Redshirt sophomore Tyler Tisdell tallied a 6-2 decision at 165 pounds before UNCG's Joe Lowe grabbed the 13-6 decision against Randy Oates at 174 pounds.

UNC Greensboro freshman Scott Snyder sealed the win with a 5-3 decision against senior Jim Martin in the 184 pound weight class. In the final bout of the day, redshirt junior Harry Zander recorded a close 14-11 decision against UNCG's Nick Clark at 197 pounds. The Spartans went on to win 21-16.

The Patriots are back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 7 when they travel to Philadelphia, Pa. to take on Drexel at 7 p.m. in a CAA meet.
