Fairfax, Va.--Former Mason softball player, Christa Dalakis, (1994-97) is one of ten athletes that signed contracts with the Washington Glory, the new National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) women's softball expansion team, for its 2007 inaugural season as announced by the organization.
"It's been a very busy couple of weeks solidifying our roster and preparing for last week's NCAA draft," said Paul Wilson, owner and general manager of the Washington Glory. "Our incredible roster of elite players is going to give the rest of the league a run for its money. It will be our inaugural season and we're certainly going to give them something to talk about."
Dalakis, a catcher and also plays outfield, joins the team with Sarah Pauly and Desiree Serrano (pitchers), Germaine Fairchild and Callie Piper (catchers), Oli Keohohou, Nichole Thompson, Stephanie Best and Sara Larquier (infield) and LaDonia Hughes (outfield).
Recently, Dalakis was selected to compete with the Greek National Team in the International Softball Federation's (ISF) XI Women's World Championship from Aug. 27-Sept. 5 in Beijing, China. Dalakis has been on the national team since 2002, which competed in the Silver 2005 European championships. In addition, Dalakis served as an alternate/assistant Coach for the 2004 Olympics.
Dalakis' name can be found in Mason's record books several times, including being second in the sacrifice hits category for a single season with 13 (1994). In addition, Dalakis has six career records: fifth in at bats (565), fifth in games started (184), fifth in games played (185), tied for fifth in hit-by-pitch (7) and is also tied for seventh in triples (10).
National Pro Fastpitch is headquartered in Denver, Colorado. The league, created to give elite female fastpitch players the opportunity to pursue a professional career in their chosen sport, has operated since 1997 under the names Women's Pro Fastpitch (WPF) and Women's Pro Softball League (WPSL).
