Track and Field Wraps Up First Day at The Armory

NEW YORK - George Mason's men's and women's track and field teams finished the first day of competition at the two-day New Balance Collegiate Invitational, held at the New Balance Track and Field Center at The Armory in New York City on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Murielle Ahoure provided the highlight for the women's team, finishing first in her heat of the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.48 seconds, the sixth fastest time overall in the preliminary heats. Ahoure will run in the finals of the event tomorrow.

For the men's team, Michael Wade, a junior transfer from Robert Morris University, turned in an impressive performance, placing second in his flight of the long jump competition with a leap of 6.84 meters (22 ft. 5.25 in.). The mark was good for fourth overall. Albany's Felipe Reyes won the event with a mark of 7.02 meters (23 ft. 0.5 in.).

The New Balance Collegiate Invitational will wrap up tomorrow with the field events scheduled to begin at 8:45 a.m. The running events will begin at 9 a.m. with the collegiate women's 3000-meter run.
