Records Continue To Fall In Second Day of Patriot Invitational

FAIRFAX, Va. - As the second day of the 2007 Patriot Invitational concluded, the George Mason swimming and diving teams saw two more of their school records broken as part of the three-day, eight-team meet held at the Jim McKay Natatorium this weekend. Junior Eric Knight made an NCAA B-cut with a time of 55.20 in the 200-yard breaststroke, a new school and meet record, while sophomore Claire Weems's 200-yard freestyle time of 1:51.77 set a new team record as well.

Overall, the George Mason women held their top spot in the team standings, but currently sits tied with UMBC for first with a score of 553.5. The Patriot men finished the day in second place, but trail the UMBC men by 499 points.

Five event victories were tallied by Patriot swimmers and divers on the day. Knight won the 100 breast event, while senior Sarah Bizer garnered her second first-place finish of the weekend with a time of 56.87 in the 100-yard butterfly. Two Mason relays took home first, as the women's 200-yard medley relay team of Jessica Jacoby, Mary Beth Cheslock, Bizer, and Courtney Cook (1:46.33) and the women's 800-yard freestyle relay squad of Caitlin Impink, Mallory Pucci, Weems and Jenny Kane (7:36.58) each finished first. On the diving board, junior Ryan Metzker won his second event of the weekend with a 333.50 tally in the 3-meter dive.

The 2007 Patriot Invitational concludes tomorrow, with preliminaries set for 9 a.m. and the finals scheduled for 5 p.m.
