A pair of George Mason sophomores had stand-out performances in the month of October as soccer's Kelly Keelan and cross country's Robert Krause were named Mason Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Month.
Keelan scored four goals had one assist and was named CAA Player of the Week during an eight-game stretch. She finished the season with six goals and three assists, both team highs. The women's soccer team made the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2004 and finished the season with an 8-10-1 record.
Krause paced the Patriots with a season-best time of 24:49.40, earning All-CAA honors with a fifth-place finish at the CAA Championships on Oct. 26 at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y. Krause's performance helped lead the George Mason men's cross country team to their best finish at the championship meet since the 1986 season, placing second in the team scoring. Krause has been Mason's top finisher in every race he's run this season.
Previous winners of this year's CAA Athlete of the Month were Jaqueline Kohler of women's volleyball (Sept.) and Fro Adu of men's soccer (Sept.).
