The George Mason women's tennis team participated in the VCU 4+1 Tournament this weekend in Richmond, Va. and finished with an 0-4 record bringing their season dual action record to 2-4 on the 2006-07 season. The Patriots played three of the top teams in the Colonial Athletic Association, including #13 VCU.

"I was pleased with our individual performances," said coach Steve Curtis. "It is not often you get to play against the quality opponents that were participating in this tournament. We can learn and build on our experiences. It is a real eye openner for this young Mason team."

The Green and Gold faced UNC Wilmington and Old Dominion in Saturday's competition and lost both 5-0. Senior Maricel Ballester lost both matches in two sets from the #1 singles position facing nationally ranked competition. Today, she lost her only match in three sets to East Carolina's top player Luiza Bourges Freshman Alexandria LaCoste and Claudia Antezano were matched against #2 and #3 singles respectively on Saturday, losing both in two sets each.

Head coach Steve Curtis played different players in each of the four matches and experimented teaming up four doubles teams. Alicia Van Zandt and Julia Moscato lost to UNC Wilmington's team 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Nora Hetrick and Jen Kramer lost to ODU's double's team 6-0, 6-1. Meredith Cutchin and Claudia Antezano lost to the East Carolina's pair, 6-0, 6-1. Nora Hetrick and Ellen Mathis, 6-0, 6-0 to VCU's double's team.

The Patriots are back in action February 11 at Mary Washington.
