Swimming & Diving Teams Sweep Mary Washington

Fairfax, Va.--George Mason University's swim teams both defeated Mary Washington Friday evening at the Aquatic & Fitness Center. The women's team won by a score of 128-85, while the men defeated the Eagles, 143-80.

On the men's side, the Patriots placed first in nine of the 13 events, including two by Tom Koucheravy. The Fairfax native swam the 1,650 in a first place time of 15:29.48, which was almost two minutes faster than his teammate Jason Adler who placed second (17:06.96). Koucheravy also claimed the 100 fly with a time of 54.32. Ryan Metzker won both diving events as he scored 269.17 in the 1-meter event and 252.00 points in the 3-meter.

The Mason women won eight out of 13 events, including both diving events by Colleen Flack who ended with a score of 269.17 in the 1-meter event and a score of 259.72 in the 3-meter. Caitlin Impink also won two events as she swam the 500 free in a time of 5:05.97, while teammate Lara Shoemaker finished second (5:19.91). Impink also won the 200 free in a time of 1:54.84.

The Patriots will return to action tomorrow when they host Old Dominion, American and Army at 1 p.m.
