FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason (6-4, 2-2 CAA) hosted the first two rounds of the Fifth Annual CAA Wrestling Duals Friday evening at the Fieldhouse. The Patriots split a pair of dual meets on the first day of action at the event, which features all 11 CAA wrestling programs.

In round one, Mason lost to Rider 27-14. The Patriots bounced back in the next round, downing Sacred Heart by the closest of margins, one point, 23-22. With Mason leading 17-16, redshirt junior Harry Zander pinned Sacred Heart redshirt junior Kevin Fox in 1:05 to give the Patriots a seven-point lead and put the match out of reach heading into the final weight class. It turned out George Mason would need those points as Sacred Heart's Payam Zarrinpour pinned senior Ryan Kittrick in the heavyweight bout to earn the Pioneers six team points.

The only ranked school in the conference, No. 6 Hofstra, won both of its meets on Friday to extend its impressive conference dual meet unbeaten streak to 50. The Pride downed ODU 23-12 in the first round and closed out the day with a 31-12 win against Binghamton. Rider also won both of its matches on the first day of action, beating James Madison (36-12) in addition to Mason. Boston University and Campbell were also undefeated on Friday, with both teams going 1-0 on the day.

Like Mason, Old Dominion split a pair of matches. Drexel and Binghamton also went 1-1 on the opening day of action. James Madison, Sacred Heart and Wagner all failed to pick up a victory on Friday.

The second day of the CAA Duals continues tomorrow with the high school portion of the event beginning at 9 a.m. and the collegiate meets starting at 11 a.m. The following is the CAA schedule for tomorrow:

Admission for tomorrow will cost $8 for adults. Youth and senior citizens can gain admission to the event for a cost of $5 per day. George Mason students will receive free admission with a valid student ID.
