FAIRFAX, Va. - George Mason's women's lacrosse team will take the field this Saturday, Sept. 30 in support of two great causes when they face Syracuse University at Centreville High School at noon.

Two lacrosse games will be played at Centreville High School Stadium during the afternoon. The event will begin with the Patriots' game, and will continue with a men's lacrosse game featuring Georgetown and defending national champion Virginia immediately following the conclusion of the women's game. Tickets will be sold at the gate, and are $8 for adults and $5 for children ages six to 13. Money raised from ticket sales will support the John Driscoll Memorial Fund and WINNERS Lacrosse.

John Driscoll was a University of Virginia midfielder who passed away in 2002 after a valiant battle with a brain tumor. He left behind his loving wife, Kara, and triplet sons, John, Patrick and Ryan. His three sons turned five this past June.

Some of John's former teammates started the fund by running a summer lacrosse camp at George Mason University. The camps, along with many other fundraising efforts, have generated much needed income for John's wife and three sons.

The Washington Inner City Lacrosse Foundation (WINNERS Lacrosse) is a nonprofit organization started in Oct. 2000 to provide youth from historically underserved neighborhoods in the greater Washington metropolitan area the opportunity to learn the game of lacrosse. More importantly, WINNERS Lacrosse uses the game of lacrosse as a vehicle to instill values, education and life sustaining skills that will give young boys and girls the opportunity to be successful.

WINNERS Lacrosse clinics, camps and programs include these virtues as part of the curriculum. WINNERS Lacrosse has designed programs and formed partnerships with other organizations that have a similar mission and requisite capabilities.

Simply put, WINNERS Lacrosse's motto is "Helping to create WINNERS on and off the field." The organization's goal is to make this motto a reality.
