LEXINGTON, Va. (September 11, 2006) - George Mason men's tennis team competed this past weekend at the Washington and Lee Fall Invitational Tournament. Davidson, James Madison and Washington and Lee all competed with Mason at the tournament.
Mason's Jordan Lipstock played at the No. 1 position going 0-3 during the tournament with loses to John Bolton of Davidson, Nat Estes of Washington and Lee and Stuart Sanford finishing 8th overall. Daniel Schneider and Jay Freidman both competed at the No. 2 spot this weekend. Schneider finished the weekend with a 1-2 record finishing 7th in the tournament with his win in the final round over Dewey Mixter of Washington and Lee. Freidman also finished 7th this weekend with a 1-2 record ousting Jordan Weber of Washington and Lee in his final match of the weekend. Freidman played his last match in the No. 3 bracket so as not to compete against teammate Schneider. Stas Budagov finished the tournament with a 2-1 record and placing third, the highest of all athletes representing Mason this weekend. Budagov recorded victories over Brian Rubenstein of JMU and Cliff Gaddy of Washington and Lee. Eric Vogel and Martin Brown competed in the No. 4 singles bracket for Mason. Vogel defeated Brown in the final match to finish with a 1-2 record and Brown finished 0-3. Mason put three doubles teams into to action this weekend also. In the No. 1 bracket Lipstock and Budagov finished 7th with a 1-2 record defeating Weber and Mixter of Washington and Lee. In the No. 2 bracket Schneider and Freidman, along with, Vogel and Brown finished 4th and 8th respectively. Schneider and Freidman finished with a 1-2 record and Vogel and Brown went 0-3.
Mason tennis will be in competition again on September 30 against Saint Francis College in a double header with the women's team.
