Fairfax, Va.--Former Mason softball player, Christa Dalakis, who played at Mason from 1994-97, has been selected to compete with the Greek National Team in hte International Softball Federation's (ISF) XI Women's World Championship from Aug. 27-Sept. 5 in Beijing, China.

Dalakis has been on the national team since 2002, which competed in the Silver 2005 European championships. In addition, Dalakis served as an alternate/assistant Coach for the 2004 Olympics.

This event only happens once every four years, and the 2006 edition is a blockbuster. The top four finishers (or top five if China is one of the top four) will qualify for the 2008 Olympic Softball competition. It's also the first event being played in the new stadium built for the Summer Games two years from now. And, the world championship is also serving as softball's 2008 Olympic Test Event. This is the first time ever that Greece has competed in this event.

Dalakis' name can be found in Mason's record books several times, including being second in the sacrifice hits category for a single season with 13 (1994). In addition, Dalakis has six career records: fifth in at bats (565), fifth in games started (184), fifth in games played (185), tied for fith in hit-by-pitch (7) and is also tied for seventh in triples (10).
