Fairfax, Va. (July 13, 2006)- George Mason Athletic Director Tom O'Connor announced today that Jennifer Montgomery has joined the intercollegiate athletics department staff as Director of Major Gifts, a newly created position.

"It was important that we find someone of Jennifer's qualifications to fill this position," said O'Connor. "She has extensive intercollegiate fundraising experience and great success at a major Division I institution. She is the right candidate to lead our major gift efforts, benefiting all athletic programs at George Mason."

Montgomery comes to Mason from Georgetown University in Washington D.C., where she has worked for the past six years in the athletic development office. She served as the director of Hoyas Unlimited for the past two seasons, responsible for a $2.1 million fundraising drive for 27 varsity sports. During her tenure, she also solicited major gifts from alumni, parents and friends of Georgetown for both current-use and capital projects. She oversaw more than 70 Hoyas Unlimited events a year, including the annual athletic recognition dinner and Hall of Fame induction.

The Vienna, Va. native graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Virginia in 1999 and immediately began her career in sports as a communications assistant for the NHL Washington Capitals. After one season with the Capitals she was hired by Georgetown athletics.

Montgomery continued her higher education while working at Georgetown and received her Masters of Art in Liberal Studies in 2003. She and her husband Darren reside in Falls Church, Va.
