GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman Murielle Ahoure competed in both the 100- and 200-meter dash finals at the NCAA East Regional Championships on Saturday at Irwin Belk Track in Greensboro, N.C. Ahoure was the only freshman to qualify for the finals in either event.

Ahoure will be placed on the at-large list for selection to the National Championships in both events. In the 100-meter dash, Ahoure finished in eighth place in the finals, finishing the race in 11.46 seconds. She ranked 33rd in the country heading into the meet, but improved upon her time by .07 seconds, running a time of 11.42 seconds in yesterday's preliminary heats. Ahoure will also receive National Championship consideration in the 200-meter dash after finishing one spot out of an automatic qualifier, placing sixth with a time of 23.45 seconds. She entered the meet ranked 26th in the country with a time of 23.33 seconds. South Carolina sophomore Shalonda Solomon won both the 100- and 200-meter dash.

Senior Marc Kellman advanced to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, scheduled for June 7-10 at A.G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif., with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump.

After rolling his left ankle while approaching the sand pit on his second attempt of the afternoon, Kellman fought through the pain to post his best jump of the day on his final attempt, posting a mark of 15.85 meters, or 52 ft., to move past Clemson junior Jason Bell (15.80 meters/51 ft. 10 in.) into fifth place to earn the automatic qualifier to the National Championships. The top five finishers in each region all move on to the National Championships. Joining Kellman at the National Championships from the East Region will be Cornell's Rayon Taylor (16.17 meters/53 ft. .75 in.), Florida State's Rafeeq Curry (16.09 meters/52 ft. 9.5 in.), North Carolina A&T's Brandon Via (16.04 meters/52 ft. 7.5 in.) and Florida's Alex Harris (15.86 meters/52 ft. .50 in.).

In the 110-meter hurdles finals, senior Richard Phillips came out of the blocks fast, but knocked over the final hurdle, slowing him down as he crossed the finish line. He finished in sixth place, one spot out of an automatic qualifier to the National Championships, with a time of 13.79 seconds. The top five finishers - South Carolina's Jason Richardson, Maryland's Dominic Berger, East Carolina's Hector Cotto, Pittsburgh's Mike Wray and Howard's Jacoby DuBose - all advanced to next week's National Championships. Phillips, who entered the meet with the 10th best time in the nation, is on the at-large list that will be considered for the National Championships based on their top performance during the season. Those selections will be announced next week.

Junior Ryan McCoy and senior Quentin Matthews also competed on Saturday. McCoy competed in the triple jump along with Kellman, finishing 15th in the field with a mark of 15.05 meters (49 ft. 4.5 in.). Matthews competed in the high jump but didn't clear a height.

In the team scoring, the George Mason men finished tied for 33rd with seven points, while the women's team finished 37th with four points. Florida State captured the men's title with 97 points, while Florida and South Carolina finished second and third. South Carolina won the women's title with 79.5 points, with Miami and Georgia rounding out the top three.

The qualifying round of the men's triple jump at the National Championships is scheduled for Friday, June 9 at 3 p.m. with the finals slated for Saturday, June 10 at 12:30 p.m. The National Championships will air live on CSTV from 8 - 10 p.m. ET on Friday and from 3:30 - 6 p.m. ET on Saturday on CBS.
