Box Score

The George Mason baseball team overcame a 5-2 deficit to tie the game at 5-5 in the seventh and then scored three runs in the ninth inning to erase a 7-5 George Washington lead and take an 8-7 win over the Colonials in non-conference action.

Scott Krieger led off the ninth with his second hit of the game and after Casey Slattery drew a walk, Krieger and pinch-runner Brett Pomykala advanced on a ground out. A walk by Jason Bour loaded the bases and Tyler Youngs singled to bring home Krieger, making it 7-6. Ryan Uphouse's RBI groundout scored Pomykala with the game-tying run and Spencer Wiggins' single plated Bour for an 8-7 lead.

Jordan Flasher pitched the ninth for his fourth save of the season, and second in the past two games. He is tied for seventh on the school's single-season saves list. With one more save this year, he can move into a tie for third and with two more, a tie for second. Flasher struck out Bryan Hwang, who was 3 for 5 on the day, to end the game with the tying run at first. Phil Stone (1-2) earned the win after allowing one run in one and one-third innings.

Mason's first run came in the first inning as Matt York had a two-out single and Krieger drove him home with a double to left. In the fourth, down 3-1, Mason got another run as Slattery singled, went to second when Mike Genovese walked and scored on a Bour single.

The Patriots (19-26) scored three unearned runs in the seventh to tie the game at 5-5. Mike Laird reached on an error, went to second when Wiggins was hit by a pitch and scored on a Robby Jacobsen double. After York struck out and Krieger walked to load the bases, Slattery's single to right scored two to tie the game.

With two outs in the eight, Mason loaded the bases on an error, hit and walk, but the Colonials (18-26) escaped without giving up a run. That set the stage for the dramatic ninth.

Slattery, Krieger and Bour were 2 for 4 while York and Wiggins were 2 for 5. Jacobsen, who had a 14-game hitting streak earlier this year, tied for 11th longest in school history, extended his current hitting streak to eight. He also joined Ralph Schmidt, Eddie Jordan and Chris Widger as the only players in Mason history with 50 career doubles and 30 career home runs.

Mason returns to action on Wednesday when the Patriots play at Coppin State at 3 p.m.
