LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Redshirt freshman Tyler Tisdell (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) was named to the Colonial Athletic Association All-Rookie Team today for his outstanding season, which culminated with a berth to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships in Oklahoma City, Okla. Ten wrestlers made the team, with one representative at each weight class.
Tisdell, who made the team at 165 pounds, led the team with 28 wins and nine major decisions. He was 8-1 in conference matches, finishing as the runner-up at 165 pounds at the CAA Championships, upsetting the No. 2 seed, Old Dominion's Robby Gosnell in the semifinals, before losing to top-seeded Chris Vondruska of Hofstra in a close championship bout 3-2. Tisdell earned a trip to the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships as a result of his second-place finish at the CAA Championships. He earned CAA Rookie of the Week honors three times during the season, on Jan. 31, Feb. 7 and March 7.
Rounding out the All-Rookie Team is Steve Mytych of Drexel at 125, Ryan Williams of Old Dominion at 133, Greg Jensen of Drexel at 141, Mike Kessler of Rider at 149, Chris Wade of Binghamton at 157, Doug Umbehauer of Rider at 174, David Mendoza of Old Dominion at 184, Jason Cook of Campbell at 197 and Jim Connors of Boston U. at heavyweight.
Hofstra University's Mike Patrovich, a senior 174-pounder, earned CAA Wrestler of the Year honors, while Mytych took home Rookie of the Year hardware and Hofstra head coach Tom Ryan was named the CAA Coach of the Year.
