George Mason senior Brent Hitz hurled a gem against Hofstra on Saturday and the CAA recognized his fabulous performance by naming him Co-Pitcher of the Week. Hitz allowed one run on just two hits over eight innings against the Pride in helping Mason to a 5-2 win.
Hitz retired the first six batters of the game before allowing a solo homer to lead off the third. After that, he faced just 19 batters over the next six innings, striking out four and walking one. The performance helped Mason to its second sweep of the year, as the Patriots downed Hofstra 10-2 on Friday and 5-3 on Sunday.
Hitz shares the weekly honor with John Leonard of Virginia Commonwealth. Leonard went the distance in a 7-2 win over UNCW, allowing five hits and no earned runs.
This is the first time Hitz has won a weekly CAA award.
