FAIRFAX, Va. - Playing in their final regular season home game of the year at George Mason Stadium, the Patriots sent off their senior class of Sarah Bryant, Michele Brady, Jennifer Thomas and Robyn Yeatman in style with a dominating 23-11 victory over CAA rival Old Dominion. The 23 goals is a new single-game record for the George Mason women's lacrosse team, topping the old mark of 22 set on March 30, 2002 against Drexel.
The win gives Mason an overall mark of 7-4, and 3-1 in conference play, while the loss drops ODU to 5-6 and 2-2 in CAA competition.
Mason jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first period and never trailed in the game. The Patriots were up 12-5 at the half, and outscored the Monarchs in the second period 11-6 for the final tally.
All four seniors had a major impact in the game. Bryant scored a free-position goal, her 11th of the season, Brady caused three turnovers on defense, Thomas had a free-position goal and Yeatman came up big in her 13th career appearance for the Patriots, recording a goal, four assists and two ground balls. The four assists and two ground balls are both single-game career highs for the senior attacker.
Sophomore Laura King also had a stellar afternoon for Mason, setting a new career high with six goals. She also recorded two assists and caused three turnovers. Two Patriots scored their first career goals in the game. Junior Jenny Tran scored her first career goal with 12:50 remaining in the second period, and added another with 4:43 left in the game. Freshman Meredith Kolmer scored the first goal of her career at the 10:35 mark in the second period.
