Mason Softball Comes Up Short Against George Washington

Washington, D.C.-George Mason University's softball team dropped the first game of a doubleheader to George Washington Wednesday afternoon by a score of 5-0 and were edged, 1-0, in the second contest at Mount Vernon Field. After today, the Patriots now own an overall record of 1-35, while the Colonials improve to 20-14.

In the first game, Mason sophomore Amanda Bach collected Mason's only hit as she was 1-of-3 from the plate. Freshman Rachel Hastings pitched the entire game for the Patriots and she gave up five runs, two earned, off of 10 hits, while walking two and striking out two of the 31 batters she faced. GWU's Gabby Culp was on the mound all seven innings and gave up one hit, while walking two and striking out five Mason players.

In the nightcap, sophomores Emily Miller and Cassi Bailey each led the Patriots as the plate as both had a 2-for-3 showing. Freshman Kelsey Mack and Bach each added a hit a piece for Mason. Sophomore Arielle Weinkofsky saw six innings of work on the mound and gave up one run, unearned, off of four hits and struckout two of the 23 Colonials she faced. Katie Miller earned the win for GWU as she allowed six hits and struckout seven Patriots.

Mason will return to action when the Patriots host Hofstra for a doubleheader on April 8, beginning at 1 p.m.
