Track and Field Wraps Up Competition at the Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA - Both the men's and women's track and field teams traveled to Philadelphia, Pa. this weekend to compete in the prestigious Penn Relays. Freshman Murielle Ahoure's fifth-place finish in the 100-meter dash finals highlighted the women's team, while a pair of triple jumpers turned in a strong performance for the men's team.

Both Ryan McCoy and Marc Kellman competed in the triple jump. McCoy finished fifth with a mark of 15.52 meters (50 ft. 11 in.), while Kellman placed seventh with a leap of 15.32 meters (50 ft. 3 in.).

In the 110-meter hurdles, senior Richard Phillips finished fourth in his preliminary heat with a time of 14.15 seconds, giving him the 11th-best time in the preliminary rounds.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Kellman, Phillips, senior Sammy Sesay and sophomore Brian Hay placed fourth in their preliminary heat, finishing the race in 41.66 seconds.

Ahoure's time of 11.76 seconds in the preliminary rounds of the 100-meter dash qualified her for the finals in the event. She finished in fifth place in the finals, crossing the finish line in 11.64 seconds.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Ryann Hendricks, sophomore Misti Turner, senior Sheena Davidson and Ahoure ran a time of 47.65 seconds in the preliminaries, good for fourth place in their heat. In the 4x200-meter relay, Mason's team of Hendricks, Davidson, Turner and Ahoure finished the race in 1:39.37. In the finals, they finished sixth with a time of 1:38.46.
