Fairfax, Va.--Freshman Ali Bryan (Midland Park, N.J.) pitched her third career shut-out in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to help lead Mason's softball team to a 1-0 win over UNC Wilmington at George Mason Field. In the first contest, the Seahawks (30-24, 11-6 CAA) defeated the Patriots (8-44, 5-11) by a score of 3-0.
In the second game, sophomore first baseman Kristen Dickel (North Wales, Pa.), who was 1-for-3 at the plate, reached first on a fielder's choice in the bottom of a second and advanced to third after freshman third baseman Morgan Wright (Bridgewater, Va.) connected on a double to rightfield. Sophomore catcher Lesley Hassen (Virginia Beach, Va.) earned an RBI as she hit a single to send Dickel home for the game-winning run.
Bryan (3-7) tallied her second-straight win as she allowed only six hits, while walking one and striking out five of the 31 Seahawks she faced. Junior Jess Luckett was in the circle the entire game for UNCW and gave up one earned run off of five hits, while striking out two Patriots.
In the first contest, UNCW senior Jennifer Bosley pitched a one-hit shutout and has now gone 30 consecutive innings without allowing a run.
