BALTIMORE, Md. - George Mason hit the road for its final game of the season, taking on No. 9 Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md. The Patriots fell behind early and went on to lose by a final of 14-6 to finish up their 2006 season with a 7-9 overall record.
The Patriots struck first, just 3:09 into the game, when junior Melissa Venturi scored the first of her two goals to give George Mason the early lead. Johns Hopkins answered with a nine-goal run, with junior attacker Mary Key scoring five of the goals to put the Blue Jays up 9-1 at the half.
Mason scored five goals in the second period, but the first-half deficit was too much for the Patriots to overcome. The game marks the end of the careers of seniors Michele Brady, Bryant, Jennifer Thomas and Robyn Yeatman. Bryant, hailing from Fairfax Station, Va., ends her career seventh in career goals with 66 and 10th in career points with 83. Thomas, from Herndon, Va., scored three goals during her career at Mason, with one this season in the win over Old Dominion on April 9. Yeatman, a native of Elkridge, Md., finishes up with two goals and five assists for seven points. She had a career game against ODU on April 9, recording five points on four assists and one goal.

Velesz and sophomore Megan Bartlett both recorded a team-high two caused turnovers. In the net, freshman Bonnie Nelson got the start, recording four saves. She was replaced by freshman Roxie Alsruhe, who played the final 29:47, recording three saves.
Key set two Johns Hopkins' Division I records in the game, scoring a point in her 47th consecutive game, breaking the old mark of 46, and her 11 points in the game is a new single-game record for the school.
