George Mason freshman Scott Krieger had a big week at the plate for the Patriots and the Colonial Athletic Association rewarded the first baseman/outfielder as the native of Towson, Md. was named the CAA Rookie of the Week.
Krieger batted .688 (11-for-16) with two homers, eight runs scored and three RBI in George Mason's four games last week. The freshman went 3-for-4 in Mason's 4-3 victory over VCU on Friday, including a game-tying triple in the 10th, before scoring the game-winning run. He also hit two home runs in Sunday's 9-4 loss to VCU, the second time this year he's hit two home runs in a game.
Krieger is batting .301 on the year with five home runs and 15 RBI. He is second on the team in batting average (minimum 75 at-bats), hits and slugging percentage, first in runs, doubles, triples, and on-base percentage, and third in home runs and at-bats.
Krieger, a graduate of Calvert Hall High School, has started 27 games at first, seven in left and two in right.
