TOWSON, Md. - Sophomore righthander Arielle Weinkfosky (Ocean Township H.S./Oakhurst, N.J.) pitched a three-hit shutout in the second game of a Colonial Athletic Association doubleheader to lead George Mason University (5-43, 4-10) to a 1-0 win over Towson University (26-23, 6-9) and ending the Tigers' seven-game winning streak at the Tigers' Towson Center Field on Sunday afternoon.

Weinkofsky's shutout enabled the Patriots to avoid a series sweep. The Tigers won the opening game of Sunday's twinbill with a 9-3 victory. Towson also won the rain-delayed series opener on Saturday, 3-1.

Weinkofsky threw her first shutout of the season by holding the Tigers to three singles. She walked one and struck out five batters en route her second win of the season.

The Patriots gave her the only run she would need in the sixth inning. With one out, sophomore second baseman Amanda Bach (Hickory H.S./Chesapeake, Va.) doubled to right centerfield. Bach came around to score the only run of the game when sophomore designated player Emily Miller (West Springfield H.S./Springfield, Va.) lined a double over the head of Tiger rightfielder Jen Hastings (Delmar H.S./Delmar, Del.).

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Tigers threatened to tie the game as sophomore leftfielder Christina Navarro (Diamond Bar H.S./Diamond Bar, Cal.) led off with a single. After she went to second base on a sacrifice bunt by sophomore catcher Aimee Rosa (California H.S./Whittier, Cal.), freshman first baseman Emily Gould (Shorecrest H.S./Lake Forest Park, Wash.) drew a walk. However, Weinkofsky settled down and retired senior third baseman Keely Walsh (Livermore H.S./Livermore, Cal.) on a ground ball to shortstop before ending the game when sophomore designated player Stephanie Fudurich (Olympia H.S./Olympia, Wash.) grounded out to Bach at second base.

Sophomore righthander Jessica Fisher (Dakota Ridge H.S./Littleton, Col.) suffered the loss for the Tigers. She allowed one run on six hits with no walks and six strikeouts. Fisher, who earned a win in the opening game, is now 14-12 on the season.

In the opener of the doubleheader, Navarro went four-for-four with two doubles and two runs batted in, leading the Tigers to a 9-3 come-from-behind win.

The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as they scored an unearned run. With one out, Bach drew a walk. Then, Miller hit a ground ball to Tiger shortstop Megan Zwoyer (El Camino Real H.S./Woodland Hills, Cal.). Zwoyer tried to beat Bach to second base for the force play but didn't arrive on time. Then, she made a wild throw to first base, allowing Bach to score the go-ahead run.

Zwoyer helped the Tigers tie the game in the bottom of the first inning when she singled with one out and scored on a double to leftfield by Navarro.

In the third inning, the Patriots took a 2-1 lead when sophomore Cassi Bailey (Western Branch H.S./Chesapeake, Va.) singled with one out and came around to score on Bach's double to left centerfield. With two outs in the fifth inning, Bach helped the Patriots increase their lead to 3-1 as she doubled with two outs and scored on an RBI single by Miller.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Tigers rallied to tie the score. Navarro and Rosa opened the inning with back-to-back singles. After a sacrifice bunt by Gould moved the runners to second and third, Walsh hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield, making it a 3-2 game. Fudurich tied the game at 3-3 with an RBI single up the middle.

In the last of the sixth inning, the Tigers exploded for six runs on six hits to grab a 9-3 edge. Senior centerfielder Jillian Fraser (Livermore H.S./Livermore, Cal.) started the inning with a walk, knocking pitcher Rachel Hastings (Westborough H.S./Westborough, Mass.) out of the game. Hastings followed with a perfect bunt that went for a base hit as it settled just inside the third base line 20 feet from home plate. Zwoyer loaded the bases when she bunted for a single.

Navarro gave the Tigers a 4-3 lead with a hard single to left, her fourth hit of the game. Another run scored when Bach made an error at second base on a ground ball by Rosa. After Gould struck out, Walsh smacked a two-run single to leftfield, giving Towson a 7-3 edge. Fudurich capped off the rally with a two-run single to center, putting the Tigers up by 9-3.

Walsh and Fudurich each had two hits and three RBI's as the Tigers accumulated 15 hits in the opener.

Fisher earned the win in relief for the Tigers as she pitched two scoreless innings with three strikeouts.

The win extended the Tigers' winning streak to seven games in a row. Bach led the Patriots in their doubleheader split. She went 3-for-6, all doubles, with three runs scored and one RBI. Miller had two hits and drove in two runs.

Navarro led the Tigers as she went 5-for-7 with two runs scored and two RBI's.
