Box Score

TOWSON, Md. - Junior righthander Jillian Kiley (Chariho Regional H.S./Hope Valley, R.I.) pitched a four-hitter and struck out 11 batters to lead Towson University (25-22, 5-8) to a rain-delayed 3-1 victory over George Mason University (4-42, 3-9) in the first game of their three-game Colonial Athletic Association weekend series at the Tigers' Towson Center Field on Saturday afternoon.

After a 2:12 rain delay at the start, the Tigers and the Patriots finally played the first game of their weekend series. The second game of their scheduled doubleheader was postponed by rain which started just minutes after Kiley finished off her four-hitter. The Tigers and the Patriots will play a CAA doubleheader on Sunday, starting at 1:00 p.m.

The Tigers snapped a scoreless tie in the fourth inning when they rallied for three runs off sophomore righthander Arielle Weinkfosky (Ocean Township H.S./Oakhurst, N.J.). Freshman first baseman Emily Gould (Shorecrest H.S./Lake Forest Park, Wash.) led off with a walk to start the rally. With one out, sophomore Stephanie Fudurich (Olympia H.S./Olympia, Wash.) reached base when she was hit by a pitch.

Junior second baseman Angie Hess (McNary H.S./Keizer, Ore.) gave the Tigers the lead when she hit a line drive triple down the leftfield line that rolled into the corner, allowing Gould and Fudurich to score. With two outs, junior rightfielder Jen Hastings (Delmar H.S./Delmar, Del.) smashed a double to deep centerfield, driving in Hess for a 3-0 Tiger lead.

Trailing by 3-0 entering the seventh inning, the Patriots staged a rally of their own. Sophomore first baseman Kristin Dickel (North Penn H.S./North Wales, Pa.) led off the inning with a hard single up the middle. Sophomore catcher Lesley Hassen (Kempsville H.S./Virginia Beach, Va.) hit a sharp ground ball to Gould at first base who threw to second for the force play. Freshman third baseman Morgan Wright (Turner Ashby H.S./Bridgewater, Va.) followed with a double to centerfield, giving the Patriots runners on second and third base with one out.

Kiley then struck out pinch hitter Katlyn Winter (Mentor H.S./Mentor, Ohio) on a pitch in the dirt. When the ball squirted away from Tiger catcher Aimee Rosa (California H.S./Whittier, Cal.), Winter reached base and the Patriots had the bases loaded.

Freshman outfielder Dee Murray (Culpeper H.S./Culpeper, Va.) drove in the Patriots' first run of the game when she grounded to Gould at first base. Gould made a bad throw to the plate as pinch runner Paige Miller (Langley H.S./McLean, Va.) scored to make it a 3-1 lead.

However, Kiley remained calm and got sophomore Cassi Bailey (Western Branch H.S./Chesapeake, Va.) to hit a ground ball to senior third baseman Keely Walsh (Livermore H.S./Livermore, Cal.). Walsh threw home for the force play and the second out of the inning. Sophomore second baseman Amanda Bach (Hickory H.S./Chesapeake, Va.) ended the game by grounding out to Walsh at third base.

The Tigers outhit the Patriots, 7-4, as Hastings led the way with two hits.

Kiley upped her record to 11-10 as she won her third decision in a row. Weinkfosky allowed three runs on seven hits with three walks in four innings of work.
