NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (April 21, 2006) - The George Mason women's tennis team seeded #9 lost to top seeded and #14 ranked Virginia Commonwealth University, 4-0, in their quarterfinal match of the 2006 CAA Women's Tennis Championship today at Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News, Va.
The Patriots had their hands full with the nationally ranked Rams. Picked 49 the in ITA's preseason poll, VCU has blasted its way to a perfect 24-0 record and a No. 14 ranking by the ITA. Top singles player Marianna Yuferova is currently No. 49 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
The Rams won all three doubles matches, losing only one game to earn the doubles point. In singles action, matches were completed in No. 4-6 singles with VCU losing only one game, to finish out the scoring.
The Patriots finish the season with a 13-12 record. Two seniors and co-Captains Andreea Fusea and Jenn Dektas finish their careers at Mason.
