NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (April 20, 2006) - George Mason's top two women's tennis players senior Andreea Fusea and junior Maricel Ballester earned All-CAA Second and Third team honors respectively for their performances in singles action this season. The pair received All-CAA Second Team honors for their accomplishments on the court as a team in doubles.

Co-Captain Fusea finished her senior season with a 16-7 overall singles record from the No. 1 position, including a 14-6 dual match record. Ballester finished with a 17-7 overall record, including a 4-1 record in matches against CAA opponents. The Lima, Peru native, played the majority of her matches from the No. 2 position, but three matches at No. 1 singles yielded a 2-1 record.

The pair played doubles together for the season straight season. They started off the season winning the DC Metro Championships for Flight A doubles in September. The duo only lost three times during the season together, all three of the matches to tough conference opponents.

The awards were presented Thursday night prior to the quarterfinals of the 2006 CAA Women's Tennis Championship, which resumes Friday at the Huntington Park Tennis Center in Newport News. The tournament runs through Sunday, with the women's championship match set for 1:00 p.m. on April 23.
