BOSTON - Sophomore Brian Hay finished in third place in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.41 seconds at the IC4A Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at the Track and Field Pavilion in Boston, Mass.
The time is a new personal record for the sophomore, topping his previous best of 7.48 seconds in the event. Hay finished behind Ron Jules of Penn State (7.34 seconds) and Ray Lenihan of Princeton (7.39 seconds) in the finals.
A trio of seniors competed at the championships. Quentin Matthews placed fifth in the high jump, leaping 2.06 meters (6 ft. 9 in.), while Sammy Sesay competed in the 55-meter dash, finishing 23rd in the preliminary heats with a time of 6.56 seconds. Marc Kellman had a tough time in both of his events, fouling on all three of his jumps in both the long jump and triple jump. Kellman, currently ranked fifth in the NCAA in the triple jump with a leap of 16.07 meters at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational on Feb. 4, will compete in the triple jump at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships next weekend at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark. The triple jump is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 11.
George Mason finished 26th in the team rankings with 10 points at the IC4A Championships. Penn State finished first with 71 team points.
